Dear mama,
I am writing to you from New York telling you how my life has been without you. When I first moved out here I was scared and lonely. My trip over here was also scary because people asked me for money, and most of the time I couldn’t understand what they were saying. The 300$ you sent me helped me out a lot, although I got it all stolen from me. It got me out of tight situations. I didn’t understand why you sent me out here all by myself, but I understand now. You believed in me that I would succeed and I did. There were some times when I felt that I should kill myself because of all the pressure that was put on me but I realized what would have been the consequences. Slowly but I did. When I first came down here a stranger took me in with him. Hes very nice and he took good care of me. He lets me sleep on his floor for free, its not much but its better then being out in the cold. He tells me stories about how he was a kid and how he had to work hard like I do. We have a lot in common. He also taught me most of the English I know and how to use a visa card. I work at a restaurant as a manager now, before I worked for 2 cents every time I cut thread off of clothes! I have many scars from accidentally cutting myself. When I first starting at the restaurant everything was so confusing, but now I get it perfectly. I've worked my way up to the top now making a lot more money then before. I cant wait to see you and the others. I'm also going to college and I completed high school, I completed my freshmen year of college at buffalo. It took me a long time to understand the English language but I got the hang of it now. I am becoming a very successful man now because of your choice. Thank you mom, I cant wait until the day we are reunited.
P.S- When you guys come down I can hook you up with a job.

Smugglers- People who sneak stuff or people in America. Smugglers get paid a-lot to sneak people in the us.
Authorities- police officers or border patrol anybody who is law enforcement. When doing crimes you should watch out for authorities.

LETTER
Dear Mom and dad, it’s me your lost and forgotten son. What's cracking why don’t I ever hear from you guys. I made it to the U.S. a couple years ago I've been bored so I decided to write to you, tell you what this place you sent me to has been like. I made it in all right the smugglers they were good ones. I was scared when we were at the airport I thought the authorities were going to catch us for sure. My palms were sweating and my heart was beating so fast, but we made it. When i got to the U.S I had a long journey to new York it took us several weeks to get new York. The trip was a fun one indeed it was. They took us through Holly wood in LA it was soooo cool. The driving was unbearable I couldn't stand to sit for so long. The food we ate was like none I ate before we went to this place called McDonalds I fell in love with my first bite of the big Mac. When I Came to new York I was by myself alone and scared. I stayed with an old man in an a basement I slept on the floor, it was very cold and I could hear the mans snoring all night. My first job I was only making 2 cents an hour I was cutting linen later I found a job at a Chinese restaurant like the ones at home I've been sending you money I hope you have been getting it. The 300 dollars you sent me came in handy so thanks. I've grown a lot since you last saw me ive gotten taller and I have a beard and mustache. I had a girl friend for a year but we broke up. I started out washing dishes it was really simple, but later I found out one of the best restaurant jobs was taking orders over the telephone. The place where I worked was cool I got along with everybody they totally understood my story so they tried to help, was still alone. I dropped out of school, it just was too hard to try to communicate with everybody, they would laugh at me in school because I couldn't talk to any body they called me names which I know now what they are if I knew then I probably would have been deported so I quit, Now I speak fluent English enough to get around here. I taught myself by the way. There was this one point where I felt like killing myself, i was lost and wondering why you guys had sent me here. Now I understand everything. I'm legally in the U.S as well I almost got deported but my lawyer made a case for me and it worked. Well I'm going to go now Write back. Stay up, and peace out I love you.

dear mom,
i am writing this letter first of all to thank youfor everything you have done for me. i have to admit that for some while i despised you for sending me here. i did not understand the motives for your actions but now it is all clear to me. on my way to Americai was really scared. i got really nervous because i did not know english. i was afraid that they would ask me something and we would get caught. lucky for me id did not have to speak to any official. the woman who posed as my mother did all the talking. after we got out of the LA airport i felt great relief. i was finally in americai couldnt believe it. after i called you to tell you that i had arrived and after their money was sent to them they left me alone in chinatown in New York. for a couple of days i slept in the park alone and cold. then an old from our village offered me a place to live. even though it was on the floor it was way better than the park. he was real helpful to me. he even helped me get a job cutting loose threads for 2 cents for every shirt i finished. i was eager to finish school so i enrolled in high school. after a little while i felt that it was too much for me to handle. at that time i was so confused & depressed i to kill myself. then i remember the story about a whole family getting killed for not paying a debt. i definitly did not want that so i became strong. i realized that i needed more than $500 a month so i was able to get another job in New Jersey. it was a chinese restaurant and i washed dishes making $800 a month. after a while i taught myself englishand worked on taking orders by the phone. i was so glad i was making as much as the manager. that was a real positive turning point in my life i re-enrolled in school and graduated. now i am in the US legally. good thing i kept the recepts for the money i sent you. i plan on bringing you guys over to be with you again. thank you for everything, i hope to hear from you soon.

Dear Mama,
I'm writing to you from America. My trip was a little difficult and very risky. The snake heads gave me some fake papers and we boarded a plane. I was so scared and nervous that I was going to get caught and arrested. For a while I was staying at a park on a bench asking for money and help. For a while I was staying in an apartment basement while you guys paid the snake heads. Now while I am working I’m going to send money to you guys every months until the debt is paid off. I’m really scares about something happening to you guys. I got a job in New Jersey. I am a dish washer and later I will try to manage my very own Chinese restaurant. Now im making $800 instead of the 2 cents I was getting before.Hopefully I get enough money to open my own restaurant soon. I was blessed enough to find a woman from school that it going to help get my papers to become a citizen of the United States. I hope that later on, I can afford to send you and baba here to New York to visit me. When I get enough money I will try to schedule the snake heads to smuggle u guys in next and I will try to get some papers for u guy when you get here. Before I forget I want to let you guys know that I’m so thankful for sending me over here and I also graduated from high school and I’m attending college. I cant thank you enough mama.
