well founded fear DVD

After watching this dvd........write your essay and reflection!

This PBS POV documentary gives a shocking look at how the Immigration and Naturalization Service decides who will be granted asylum in the United States. The applicant must have a "well-founded fear" of persecution in his or her home country. Despite true and terrifying stories of torture and mistreatment, it's often up to how well the translator presents the case and how sensitive are the ears of the asylum officer to decide a person's fate.

The movie I watched was about people who go to asylum officers to try to become American citizens. Most of their cases were believable but by hearing some of theme you could tell there fake. One of the first cases was real just by hearing what the guy had to say. He was a Jew that was beat because he was a Jew. The second was denied because she didn’t have enough information. The Chinese man was the most convincing one because he started crying when they asked to inspect his body for wounds. This was a good video because I didn’t know this was real. I didn’t know that immigrants can get granted a new life in America. Most of the people that work as asylum officers talk about the people who have the same stories and most of them do. But the ones with the most information and believable story get green cards.

What I saw today in the video was awful. People got tortured for information. Also the good people was trying to get political asylum, but the lawyers are trying to do their best. Also some of this stories are surprising. All of the immigrants have awful histories. They are looking for green card, or US citizen ship. Its also surprising to find out that a lot of people from all the countries from all over the world are trying to get in the USA. Most of them are trying to get in to the USA by politics, or politic asylum.

♥The video that we watched today was very interesting. It was some stories that illegal immigrants have gone thru to get to the Unites States. They talked about why they came to the U.S. most of them were escaping from being sterilized. One man who came from China was escaping because they were trying to fine him I believe for having to many kids. In china if you have more than one kid you get locked up and put your child on adoption. I think that some of these stories are very sad. The video also was about people who have gotten the chance to get their visas approved. Also about people who have became legal in the United States. I thought that most immigrants that come to the United States come from Mexico but I was wrong there is people that come from China and Africa and all around the world. I think that all this violence needs to stop and that all the people that deserve to be in the United States should have the opportunity to proof that they are here for good and they are not trying to cause any danger.

Well the story was a sad one. Just like all the immigration stories we see or hear about. It was all kinds of people of people coming from Russia and other parts of the world where they weren't accepted. Or needed to get out because of all the poverty. These people were going through customs trying to get acceptance into the U.S. They tell of stories of hardships they have endured its all so sad to hear about. The customs officer has a tough decision on his hand at that time. Some officers are tricked or gullible and others are stricter. But its in their hands weather they believe their stories or not. Once the immigrant gets in he or she is so happy, its always good to hear a good story.

The movie was about people from all types of countries trying to get permensionship to stay in the United States. Some of the immigrants use excuses to get out of the there country to work. The people that they go to interview them to see if there are able enough to stay here. Some of the immigrants stay some of the immigrants go back to there country because they do not have documents or they have lied about were they live or what has happened to them in the other country. The immigrants have stories that scary the people that are interviewing them. This is how they figure out if the are able to stay here or not.
